ABCM Symposium Series in Bioengineering

Vol. 1

Preface

The book presents a collection of papers originally presented in the Conference Technology Meets Surgery International (TMSi), held at Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo -EPUSP-Brasil, on the 18th and 19th of July 2005. The 3rd edition of TMSi gathered 27 papers from Brazil and Scotland, and was organized by Profs. Raul Gonzalez and Jayme Ortiz, from EPUSP, Prof. Alan Slade, from University of Dundee - Scotland, Prof. Marcos Pinotti from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - UMFG and Prof. Aron Andrade from Instituto Dante Pazzanese de Cardiologia - IDPC- São Paulo. The Editors are honored with the invitation of the TMSi Organizing Committee and the ABCM Bioengineering Committee to edit this Volume.

The authors who presented the papers in the Conference were invited to re-submit their papers to this book selection. These papers were reviewed by at least two members of a Board of Reviewers, and re-submitted by the authors after the revision. The Board of Reviewers is composed by engineers and researchers from biological related sciences. The Editors would like to expresses their grateful acknowledge to this Board.

ABCM Symposium Series in Bioengineering Vol. 1 represents a significant part of the effort that is being carried out by the ABCM Bioengineering Committee to strength, among the Brazilian mechanical engineering community, the research in the field of bioengineering, biomechanics and related disciplines.
